Full Circle. A dedication to Gloria
On Dec 8th, 2008 I got to speak the school where it all started out for me. I got to speak at Woodstock High School, the school that I taught for 2 years. The school were I was referred to as “Boudreau” by my students. The school were I often felt like I was not good enough as a teacher. The school were I often felt like I was more a student than a teacher. The school were I learned so much about myself from the students that I taught. The school that I spent countless hours coaching volleyball, co-leading the spirit committee and even was the responsible teacher for cheerleaders (until they found someone more qualified.)
It all came rushing back to me while I walked in the halls. It was a wonderful feeling to remember who I was as a 22 year old new teacher. Now 33, I realize all that I have accomplished and moreover, how none of it would have been possible without the students and the staff of this school.
In fact, the highlight of my day was to visit with Gloria Spafford. She took me under her wing. Without her, I never would have left WHS to pursue my career as a motivational speaker. What made it even more special was that this is Gloria’s last year of teaching. She has taught for a total of 39 years.
I was able to acknowledge her and her heart during my keynote and I am glad I did. Thanks Glow.
